Getting Started

What is the best wig for beginners?

For beginners, the easiest options are wear & go wigs and glueless wigs. Both require no adhesive and minimal preparation. Browse our wigs for beginners collection for curated beginner-friendly styles.

What is the difference between a human hair wig and a synthetic wig?

Human hair wigs are made from real human hair — they look and feel the most natural, can be heat styled and colored, and last 1–3 years with proper care. Synthetic wigs are made from man-made fibers, are more affordable, hold their style without effort, but generally cannot be heat styled and have a shorter lifespan. Browse our human hair wigs or learn more in our guide: Human Hair vs Synthetic Wigs.

How do I choose the right wig for me?

Start with four decisions: human hair or synthetic, construction type, texture, and length. Our full guide walks you through each one: How to Choose a Wig.

How do I know my wig cap size?

Measure the circumference of your head with a flexible tape measure, going across the front hairline, around the nape, and back. Most adults wear a standard (average) cap size, which fits 21.5–22.5 inches. See our full guide: How to Choose a Wig Cap Size.

Construction & Lace

What is a lace front wig?

A lace front wig has a sheer lace panel along the front hairline that creates a natural-looking hairline when laid flat against the skin. Available in 13x4 and 13x6 sizes.

What is the difference between 13x4 and 13x6 lace?

Both are 13 inches wide across the front, but 13x6 provides 6 inches of lace depth (vs. 4 inches for 13x4), giving you more flexibility to part the hair further back and a more realistic-looking scalp area. Browse 13x4 and 13x6 lace front wigs.

What is a glueless wig?

A glueless wig is secured without adhesive, using an adjustable band, interior combs, and sometimes a drawstring. Ideal for daily wear and protective styling. Browse our wigs for beginners for glueless options.

What is a wear & go wig?

A wear & go wig has pre-cut lace and a pre-plucked hairline, so you can put it on immediately with no cutting, gluing, or special skills. The easiest possible option for new wig wearers.

What is a closure wig?

A closure wig uses a small piece of lace (typically 4x4, 5x5, or 7x5 inches) at the crown to create the appearance of a natural part and scalp. Browse our 5x5 and 7x5 closure wigs.

What is HD lace?

HD (high-definition) lace is an ultra-thin, nearly invisible lace material that blends into the skin more seamlessly than standard lace, creating an undetectable hairline across a wide range of skin tones.

Sizing & Fit

What wig density should I choose?

Density refers to how much hair is on the wig, expressed as a percentage. 150% is the most natural-looking option for everyday wear. 180–200% is fuller and more dramatic. See our guide: What Wig Density Should I Choose?

What wig length should I choose?

For beginners, 16–18 inches is the most manageable starting point. Very long wigs (24+ inches) are heavier and require more maintenance. See: How to Choose the Right Wig Length. Browse by length: short, medium, long.

Installation

How do I put on a lace front wig?

The basic steps are: prepare your hair with a wig cap, try the wig on and position it, cut the lace, apply adhesive if needed, melt and blend the lace, and style the edges. Full walkthrough: How to Install a Lace Front Wig.

Do I need glue to wear a wig?

No. Glueless wigs and wear & go wigs are secured with an adjustable band and interior combs — no adhesive needed. Browse our wigs for beginners for adhesive-free options. If you prefer a glued install, find lace adhesives in our accessories collection.

Do I need to wear a wig cap?

A wig cap is highly recommended. It flattens your natural hair, creates a smooth base, and helps the wig sit naturally. Browse our wig caps.

Care & Maintenance

How do I wash a human hair wig?

Use sulfate-free shampoo and moisturizing conditioner. Detangle first, wash with cool water using downward strokes, condition from mid-shaft to ends, rinse thoroughly, and air dry on a wig stand. Full guide: How to Wash and Care for a Human Hair Wig.

How do I wash a synthetic wig?

Use synthetic wig shampoo and cool water. Never use hot water or a blow dryer on a standard synthetic wig. Full guide: How to Care for a Synthetic Wig. Find care products in our wig care collection.

How do I store a wig?

Always store on a wig stand to maintain the cap shape and style. Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources. For long-term storage, place in a silk or satin bag. Full guide: How to Store a Wig.

How long does a wig last?

With proper care: human hair wigs last 1–3 years depending on wear frequency; synthetic wigs last 3–12 months. Daily wearers will see shorter lifespans than occasional wearers.

How do I fix a tangled wig?

Work from ends to roots using your fingers first, then a wide-tooth comb from our wig tools & styling collection. Apply detangling spray or leave-in conditioner from our wig care collection to dampen the hair before detangling. Full guide: How to Fix a Tangled Wig.

Styling

Can I heat style a human hair wig?

Yes. Human hair wigs can be flat ironed, curled, and blow dried. Always use a heat protectant first. Find heat tools and protectants in our wig tools & styling collection.

Can I heat style a synthetic wig?

Standard synthetic wigs cannot be heat styled — heat will melt or permanently damage the fibers. Some synthetic wigs are made from heat-resistant fiber and can tolerate low heat (up to 250°F / 120°C). Always check the product description before applying heat.

Can I dye a human hair wig?

Yes, human hair wigs can be colored. However, the process is irreversible, so it's recommended to test on a small section first and consult a professional colorist for significant color changes.

Protective Styling

Can wigs be used as a protective style?

Yes. When worn correctly — with natural hair braided flat underneath, a wig cap, and regular moisturizing — wigs are an effective protective style that promotes length retention. Learn more: Wigs as a Protective Style: What You Need to Know.

Which wig types are best for protective styling?

Glueless and closure wigs are the most protective options, as they require no adhesive along the hairline. Browse our 5x5 and 7x5 closure wigs and our wigs for beginners for glueless options.
